WonderRoot Transforms the Lives of ArtistsUniting Artists and Community to Inspire Positive Social Change
WonderRoot is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the art infrastructure of Atlanta.
This agency provides production facilities to Atlanta-based artists, facilitates art-based service programs, in the Atlanta community, and encourages artists to be proactive in engaging their local communities through service work. Musicians, photographers, writers, and filmmakers are just some of the many types of artists that are engaged in this center. What WonderRoot OffersMembers of WonderRoot use the media to communicate their messages globally. It offers more than 200 classes and workshops for kids and adults to learn more about the arts. These programs range from the use of traditional media such as illustration and photography to emphasis on new mediums, including digital design, video editing, and more. Another program offered by WonderRoot is Creativity for Kids, which is a youth arts-enrichment program that partners with community organizations and schools that serve low-income and at-risk youth. Activities may include a music program or a photography exhibition. The aim is to providing youth with opportunities to create and express themselves. Participants of Creativity for Kids learn how to use digital cameras to take pictures Moreover, the kids are taught how to process and edit their photos. The Creative Writing Arts Workshop is designed to help students explore their talents in writing fiction, monologues, poetry, and other forms of creative writing. Additional ServicesThe WonderRoot Community Arts Center has a darkroom, recording studio, ceramics studio, and digital media lab. Moreover, it also caters to artists that are interested in film, bookmaking, poetry, and other forms of art. The Dark Room consists of easels, digital and analog timers, stainless steel and plastic tanks/reels, photo paper, and film reels and trays. The Digital Media Lab has 20-inch IMacs with Adobe Creative Suite installed, and there is a video editing booth with Final Cut Pro, Sony miniDV import device, VHS importing, and headphones. The Ceramics Studio contains two pottery wheels, an electric kiln, and clay. WonderRoot is also a host of Georgia's only Art-o-mat, which is an old cigarette vending machine that has been refurbished into an art vending machine as a way to promote the arts and fight against cigarette smoking. WonderRoot offers a variety of facilities and services for the art community of Atlanta. Individuals can learn the visual and performing arts, as well as participate in community outreach projects.
